Strategic Plan

photo: Dr. Jay MorganAs we celebrate the 130-year history of Morehead State University, we reflect on the humble beginnings of our past and the progress we have made as and educational institution leading up to today. Our environment today presents an opportune time to think strategically about our future and to find ways to further advance the vision and mission of MSU.

With the arrival of a new University president, and the expiration of the current Strategic Plan: ASPIRE (2014-18) drawing near, our campus has undertaken a new visioning and planning process. The final plan, which will be completed in Spring 2018, will become the blueprint to move MSU forward. It will affirm and clarify the University's long-term vision and goals, and provide a multi-year direction that will build upon current planning, inform all annual operating unit plans and become the framework for allocating resources.

The strategic planning process is an important way for the University to come together to face new challenges like performance funding and to spur innovation. Thus, we intend for this to be an inclusive and transparent process, in which the committee actively solicits input from all stakeholders. The planning process involves several stages:
  • It began with a review of the vision and mission by the Board of Regents and shared governance leadership.
  • Several working groups were formed, consisting of both faculty and staff, to flesh out the themes of Student Success; Outcomes; Academic Excellence; and Rankings, Reputation and Regional Responsiveness (SOAR). These groups have been working to propose possible strategies that would have an impact in each area.
  • Based on the work of these groups, the steering committee will then develop a draft of the strategic plan.
  • This draft will then be shared with the campus community in a variety of venues to solicit feedback from all constituencies.
  • The final draft will be submitted to the Board of Regents for approval this spring.

We not only welcome your input, we depend on it. I encourage everyone to participate thoughtfully in helping shape MSU’s bright future.
