Music - Minor in Traditional Music

Program Info

The Minor in Traditional Music Studies provides for the study of traditional music as related to the creative cultural interaction in Appalachia that has produced a wealth of distinctive styles of music. As it relates to The Kentucky Center for Traditional Music at Morehead State University, “traditional” music includes Bluegrass, Old Time, Country, Ballad Singing, Blues, Celtic, Western Swing and many other related forms. The music with which we are most involved stems from, or is influenced by the music that is identified with our southern Appalachian mountain region.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Thumbnail - Caroline Clay
Theatre and Communications Double Major, Greenup, KY "I am so glad I chose to come to Morehead State.  It is small enough to provide me with one-on-one help and make me feel right at home, and it is large enough to present me with every opportunity to grow as a student and a person.  The members of the faculty and staff are so knowledgeable and helpful; they make me feel secure that I am much more prepared to succeed when I graduate."
