Collections

The Library collects a wide variety of digital and physical information sources for the use of MSU students, faculty, staff, and other Library members. Appalachian-Kentucky Collection

Location: ‚Äč5th Floor East (Library Tower)

Appalachian-Kentucky Collection consists of published and printed materials, microfilm and maps that focus upon the rich history and culture of the Appalachian region of Kentucky. The collection includes regional and county histories, local church records, regional newspapers and various other published and printed materials related to the cultural history of the northeastern Kentucky. Career Collection

Location: 1st Floor (Tutoring & Learning Center)
The Career Collection contains books about job hunting, interview skills, and resume design. It has study guides for many of the professional exams such as the GRE, MCAT, and PRAXIS. It also has books about career choices, scholarships, and graduate schools.

Genealogy Collection

Location: 5th Floor East (Library Tower)
The Genealogy Collection consists of publications related to the families that settled in Central Appalachia during the 18th and 19th centuries. Collection includes vital records, birth and death directories, state and county census materials and local and regional family histories. Search the Genealogy Collection.
 

Government Documents

Camden-Carroll Library was designated a Federal Depository Library in 1955. We currently receive approximately 45.5% of the materials distributed by the Government Printing Office in Washington D.C. These materials are distributed in many formats including paper, microfiche, videotape, CD-ROM, DVD, and online/electronic documents. View additional information and policies.

Graphic Novels Collection

Location: West Reading Room, Room 215
Includes comic strip and comic book collected editions along with many contemporary single-volume graphic novels from the Americas, Europe, and Japan. Patron requests and staff picks are the main drivers behind the selection of titles for this collection. Search the Graphic Novels Collection.
 

Learning Resource Center

Location: 1st Floor East (Library Tower)
The Learning Resource Center collection contains audiovisual media which includes sound recordings, books on CD, media players, DVDs, and teaching aids such as puppets, games, and manipulatives. It also contains children’s literature book collection and a preschool–grade 12 collection of textbooks and materials to assist teachers. 
 

Main Collection

Our Main Collection, comprising most of our non-fiction books, is arranged by Dewey Decimal classification and covers most topics.

Main Fiction Collection

Location: East Reading Room, Room 216
The Main Adult Fiction collection contains popular fiction books and prize winning contemporary literature. We strive to collect in all genres of interest to the MSU population. 


Map Collection

The Map Collections includes atlases, topographic maps, and other types of maps. The collection also includes U.S. document maps and the reference atlas stand.

Morehead STate University Archives

Location: 5th Floor East (Library Tower)
The mission of Special Collections & Archives is to collect, preserve and make available items that pertain to the history of Morehead State University and its service region, and the culture and history of Eastern Kentucky. Archives is charged with maintaining the institutional memory of Morehead State University. Board of Regents minutes, The Raconteur yearbooks, photographs, the presidential papers, and the papers of Dr. Adron Doran and Mrs. Mignon Doran are a few of the collections housed in Archives. 

 

Morehead State University Thesis Collection

Location: 5th Floor East (Library Tower)
The Theses Collection includes MSU graduate theses going back to 1967. Newer theses are now available online in the Dissertations and Theses Global database.


Multicultural Collection

Location: 2nd Floor East, Room 217
The Multicultural Room houses a reference collection of non-fiction and fiction works on various cultures around the world. It has cultural specific resources for many different topics and is decorated with artwork from different cultures.


Music Collection

Location: 4th Floor East (Library Tower)
The Music Collections includes over 10,000 music scores and books on a variety of music related topics.


Periodicals Collection

The periodicals collection includes newspapers, magazines, and journals in electronic, print, microfiche, and microfilm formats. Search the Periodicals Collection.

Recreational Reading Collections

Location: West Reading Room, Room 215
The Recreational Reading Collections contain the newest bestsellers in fiction and non-fiction, including biographies. It also contains the Student Picks collection, a list of materials that students from MSU have requested be available.
 

Reference Collection

Most new multi-volume subject-specific encyclopedias are provided as e-books while some single-volume reference works are maintained in the print format. Both formats comprising this collection can be searched at the same time using the database Reference Universe–which provides an excellent scholarly alternative to Wikipedia.

Special Collections

Location: 5th Floor East (Tower)
The mission of Special Collections & Archives is to collect, preserve and make available items that pertain to the history of Morehead State University and its service region, and the culture and history of Eastern Kentucky. Special Collections includes the Roger W. Barbour Collection, the James Still Collection, and the Jesse Stuart Collection. Books on Kentucky and Appalachia also comprise the collection.
