Classroom Technical Assistance

When utilizing the Library Classroom space, you may encounter issues with the technology or equipment available. We recommend that you try a few troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue yourself before contacting technical assistance. For immediate technical assistance, contact Ray Bailey at 606-783-5106. You may also contact Rodney Watkins at 606-783-2160 or Tom Kmetz at 606-783-5111.

Computer Issues

  1. Try restarting the computer.
  2. If the computer is completely frozen, hold down the power button on the machine itself until it shuts off, wait 30 seconds then turn the computer back on again.
  3. If the computer is unresponsive, call technical assistance.

UNLOCKING THE INSTRUCTOR'S DESK

The instructor's desk should not be locked, but if you need to unlock it, there is a key available at the Reference Desk.

SMARTBOARD STOPS WORKING

Try restarting the computer.  If this does not work, call technical assistance.

WIRELESS KEYBOARD OR MOUSE STOPS WORKING

  1. If you only need to click around, consider using the SmartBoard and touching the links you need. The SmartBoard can also provide an on-screen keyboard, but this may not be practical in some situations.
  2. If you need more functionality than the SmartBoard easily provides, connect the wired keyboard and mouse from the instructor's desk into one of the front USB ports of the computer. Please contact Ray Bailey (606-783-5106) to let him know there was an issue with the wireless equipment.

PLAYING A VIDEOTAPE

  1. Turn the VCR on, and insert your tape.
  2. Turn the projector on.
  3. On the projector remote control, press 2, which toggles the input from the computer to video.
  4. Play your videotape.
  5. When finished, press 4 on the projector remote, to switch the input back to the computer.

PLAYING A DVD

  1. Turn the projector on.
  2. Insert the DVD into the computer's DVD drive.
  3. Wait. If a pop-up menu appears, choose to play the DVD in PowerDVD player.
  4. If no menu appears, click on PowerDVD on the desktop, then click Play.

CONNECTING A LAPTOP TO THE PROJECTOR

  1. Cables with a laptop monitor hookup, sound and internet connectors are available on the desk. Hook the monitor connection or other cables into the appropriate ports of your laptop.
  2. Your laptop's image should display on the screen.
  3. If your laptop's image does not appear, you may need to change the input on the projector. You may also need to toggle the display on your laptop. Usually, there is a function key on your laptop (F4, F6, etc.), which is used to toggle the display. This function key typically has the symbol for a monitor, or the words LCD/CRT. You also typically have to press SHIFT or Fn to access this function. Follow the process for your particular laptop.
