FAQ

How can I get help with Blackboard?

If you need help using Blackboard, or are experiencing a problem, email us at blackboard@moreheadstate.edu.

Why don’t I see my course in Blackboard?

Blackboard courses are typically not available to students until the official first day of the semester. If the semester has officially begun, and you don’t see your course in Blackboard, email us at blackboard@moreheadstate.edu.

Why can’t I log into Blackboard?

Before accessing any online system at Morehead State University, you must first activate your account. Activate your account and set your password. If you can access other systems and not Blackboard, email us at blackboard@moreheadstate.edu.

Are there any Blackboard tutorials for students?

Yes! Blackboard has created a page with many videos on how to use Blackboard tools. Visit the Blackboard tutorials page.

How can I contact my instructor in Blackboard?

Your instructor may have a preferred method of contact in the course syllabus. Check there first before trying to reach them. If you would like to send them an email from Blackboard, you can do so by clicking the “Tools” button on the course menu, and then selecting “Send Email.”

Can I use a mobile device instead of a computer with Blackboard?

We recommend using a PC or Mac computer for all class activities.

What should I do if I encounter a problem during a Blackboard test?

If you encounter a problem during a Blackboard test, the first thing you should do is contact your instructor to let them know. Each instructor has different policies regarding test resets and attempts. If you regularly experience problems taking Blackboard tests, email us at blackboard@moreheadstate.edu for suggestions.

Is there a certain computer/browser that works best for Blackboard?

Blackboard works with most operating systems and browsers, though many students prefer using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome, as these browsers give the most trouble-free experience.

MSU does not send out paper bills. You will receive an email to your MSU email account once billing is available online via Self-Service Student Finance.

When a student registers for classes they create a financial responsibility to Morehead State University. The total semester charges (tuition, housing, meal plans, books and fees) minus financial aid, scholarships, waivers, and third party payments for each semester result in the amount due to the University.

You MUST accept your Financial Responsibility Agreement and pay your balance in full or enroll in a payment plan to activate your meal plan and BeakerBUCKs, to allow textbook charges at the University Store, and to prevent cancellation of your class schedule. Visit Billing for instructions and more information.
You will be billed separately for Winter Session and will be responsible for paying your winter balance by Monday, Dec. 3, 2018. Winter Session enrollment is combined with spring enrollment to determine federal financial aid eligibility, however, for billing purposes, winter and spring are separate terms. If you’ve already been awarded a full-time package based upon your grade level and dependency status for the spring, adding winter registration will not increase your Pell or Direct Loan eligibility, however, there may be other financing options such as an alternative loan or Parent Plus loan.

You must have a 2018-19 FAFSA on file to be eligible for federal aid. The Office of Financial Aid will automatically review your federal eligibility based on your combined winter and spring registration. Enrollment in both winter and spring term courses will initiate this review.

Your federal financial aid eligibility is based upon your combined winter and spring registration. The Office of Financial Aid will adjust your cost of attendance (COA) for spring based upon Winter Session registration. Any courses taken during Winter Session will be combined with spring registration to determine federal financial aid eligibility. For example: if a student is registered for 3 hours during Winter Session, and 9 hours in the spring term, their spring eligibility will be based on 12 hours of enrollment.

Federal financial aid will not be awarded during Winter Session; instead it will be combined with your spring award and disbursed according to the spring disbursement schedule.

NOTE: If you are planning to graduate after Winter Session, it is highly recommended that you contact the Office of Financial Aid to determine if you are eligible for aid PRIOR to the end of the fall semester.

The Office of Financial Aid will not automatically increase your PLUS Loan. Your current spring aid, including any PLUS Loans you are receiving, will apply towards your winter and spring charges. If your parent (or you, if you are a graduate student) would like to increase your PLUS Loan, you can email finaid@moreheadstate.edu and information will be sent regarding the next steps to increase the PLUS loan.
You must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) prior to receiving aid for any term. Since your federal financial aid eligibility is based upon your combined winter and spring registration, there is no SAP review after the winter term. Your winter grades will not change your federal financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status for the spring semester. SAP will be reviewed at the end of the spring semester.
Camden-Carroll Library will be open during the first and fourth weeks of Winter Session. Check the Library website for specific hours.

Students may contact the library for research assistance by sending an email to library@moreheadstate.edu or calling 606-783-5491. The Library will respond to questions within 24 hours.

Students may request articles throughout Winter Session. For book requests, the Library encourages all students to submit requests during the first week of Winter Session. Due to difficulties in mailing material around the holidays, requests made in the first week may not arrive at students’ homes until the fourth week of classes or later.
Yes. Tuition waivers for MSU regular full-time faculty and staff members and dependents may be used during Winter Session in accordance with UAR 327.03 excluding 800-level courses. A tuition waiver form approved by the employee’s immediate supervisor and vice president must be received by the Office of Financial Aid no later than Dec. 3, 2018.
