Institutional Review Board

Morehead State University's Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a federally-mandated committee made up of faculty, staff, and persons unaffiliated with the University charged with ensuring that the institution complies with federal policies safeguarding humans as subjects in research.
All research conducted at MSU involving human subjects must be reviewed and approved by the IRB.

2017-18 Academic Year Deadlines for IRB Protocols Requiring Convened Review:
  • September 4, 2017 - Convened Review (Exempt and Expedited accepted at any time)
    IF YOU ARE SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL TO THE RESEARCH AND CREATIVE PRODUCTIONS COMMITTEE FOR A FALL GRANT THAT REQUIRES IRB APPROVAL, THE PROTOCOL MUST BE SUBMITTED BY SEPTEMBER 4, 2017.
  • October 2, 2017 - Convened Review (Exempt and Expedited accepted at any time)
    IF YOU ARE SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL TO THE RESEARCH AND CREATIVE PRODUCTIONS COMMITTEE FOR A SUMMER FELLOWSHIP THAT REQUIRES IRB APPROVAL, THE PROTOCOL MUST BE SUBMITTED BY OCTOBER 2, 2017.
  • November 6, 2017 - Convened Review (Exempt and Expedited accepted at any time)
  • February 5, 2018 - Convened Review (Exempt and Expedited accepted at any time)

Animals in Research

Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee

Morehead State University's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is a federally-mandated committee made up of faculty, staff, and persons unaffiliated with the University charged with ensuring that the institution complies with federal policies safeguarding animals as subjects in research, testing, and teaching.
All research, teaching and/or testing conducted at MSU involving animal subjects must be reviewed and approved by the IACUC.

2017-18 Academic Year Deadlines for IACUC Protocols:

  • September 4, 2017 – IF YOU ARE SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL TO THE RESEARCH AND CREATIVE PRODUCTIONS COMMITTEE FOR A FALL GRANT THAT REQUIRES IACUC APPROVAL, THE PROTOCOL MUST BE SUBMITTED BY September 4, 2017
    Protocols received after September 6 will be reviewed at the October meeting.
