New Employee Toolbox

On behalf of Dr. Wayne Andrews, President of Morehead State University (MSU) and the Office of Human Resources, welcome to MSU. We look forward to seeing you on your first day of employment. There are some things you will find on this page that you can complete now, which will help prepare you for your first day of employment, as well as additional information that you may find useful. Please review the sections below in order to be prepared for your first day.


Full-Time New Employee Information

  1. Prior to your first day, confirm the date, time and location of New Employee Orientation on MSU's Event Calendar.
  2. Review the following items and bring completed documents to the Office of Human Resources, 301 Howell-McDowell, on or before your first day of employment:
    • Completed New Hire Packet (includes: Personal Data Sheet, Voluntary Self-Identification, Policy Summary and Signature Page, Drug, Tobacco and Alcohol-Free Workplace Statement, and Direct Deposit Form)
    • Original Acceptable I-9 Documents to verify employment eligibility. Choose from one form of identification from List A or two forms of identification, one from List B and one from List C. If you are a foreign national, your offer of employment is contingent upon proper visa classification (per IRCA).
    • Review Benefits Summary.
    • Social Security numbers of dependents for benefits enrollment
    • Completed K4 (Kentucky Department of Revenue Employee's Withholding Exemption Certificate)
    • Completed W4 (Federal tax withholding form)
    • Provide evidence of your highest educational level in keeping with the qualifications required for the position. For university accreditation purposes, staff members should send their official transcript(s) to the Office of Human Resources; faculty should send their official transcripts to the Office of the Provost.
  3. Complete the following, required trainings within the first two weeks of employment:
  4. Employees who will be granted access to the student database must complete FERPA training. FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. If you will be working in a position requiring this access, please complete this training. For assistance, call 606-783-HELP.
