Search Committee Toolbox

Thank you for serving on a Morehead State University search committee. The work you do is important to the University, as we desire to hire the most qualified, well-suited candidates.

This toolbox is designed to assist you with the search and hiring process. Take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the information below. Our goal is to provide you with the information you need, at the time you need it. Note: it is the responsibility of the search committee to closely review applicant information to determine that the minimum qualifications are met. Unfortunately, HR cannot review all applications to determine this.

  • PG-22 Employment of Relatives
  • Confidentiality: Any application or reference information gained during any part of the interview process is confidential to the search committee and departmental initiator/hiring manager. All information gained should be used by the search committee to make a recommendation to the departmental initiator/hiring manager. The information should only be shared with those who have a business need to know.
  • Creating the Short List
    • Rubric - generic tool to be personalized for your search to assist with ranking candidates (the Search Chair should provide HR with final documentation, either this rubric or another tool used to rank candidates at the conclusion of the search)
  • Scheduling Interviews
    • HR recommends committees utilize alternative methods for face-to-face interviewing of candidates whenever possible (e.g. Skype, Web Conferencing, etc.). Use this method, if necessary, as an extra layer of interviews, keeping consistency in the type of interview with all candidates. If on-campus interviews are necessary, the use of alternative forms of interviewing can help limit the number of these interviews.

    • Travel Considerations
When applications are transitioned to inactive statuses, automatic emails are triggered. If you have any questions about automatic communication with applicants, please contact the Office of Human Resources.
