Assessment

Assessment manages the quality enhancement of academic programs, support units, and the general education program through evidence-based implementation and evaluation of a continuous improvement process.

Oversight of the General Education Program assessment activities includes: coordinating and gathering evidence of general education outcomes, and analyzing and disseminating assessment findings.

Administrative & Educational Support Units

Crafting Quality Mission Statements
Fall 2018 (Oct. 11, 9:30 a.m. - Noon, 413 Combs)

This training will focus on writing good mission statements for administrative and educational support units. It will also explore the new MSU Strategic Plan (SOAR) and talk about how unit mission statements should be crafted to align with the institutional strategic plan while providing examples of good mission statements for such units.

Exploring Appropriate Outcomes, Measures and Targets for Assessing Administrative & Educational Support Units
Spring 2019 (Feb. 22, 2-4:30 p.m., 413 Combs)

This session will focus on formulating appropriate outcomes, measures and targets for effective assessment plans

  • Direct vs indirect measures
  • Appropriate measures for different types of outcomes
  • Setting appropriate targets
  • Completing action plans/continuous improvement


Academic Programs

Closing the Loop (MANDATORY FOR THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUBMITTING ASSESSMENT PLANS – no need to register for this particular training – appropriate participants will be notified)
(Sept. 4-7, 10-11 a.m. and 2-3 p.m. each day, 413 Combs; will be scheduled by college, twice per day in order to accommodate those teaching classes)

This training will focus on reporting findings and formulating action plans for future assessment. Content will include reporting methods for assessment findings, and using those findings to plan actions for continuous improvement. This training will also focus on improvement strategies in an environment where new fiscal resources are not available.

Writing Effective Outcomes, Choosing Measures and Setting Targets for Academic Programs
Fall 2018 (Nov. 20, 2-4:30 p.m., 413 Combs)

This training will focus on writing concise and appropriate learning outcomes, choosing appropriate measures and setting appropriate targets for academic programs. The training will delineate the differences in goals and outcomes and how to articulate outcomes, specifically define what student learning outcomes are and provide examples of good outcomes for such academic programs. Also, the training will explore appropriate measures to utilize based on the outcome to be assessed. Setting appropriate targets and how to articulate targets will also be discussed.
