Studio Art Minor

The minor in Studio Art is a 24-credit program designed to strengthen the student's studio art experiences. An introduction to two-dimensional traditional and digital media, as well as color theory, is provided through the core courses of Art 100 (2D Design and Color Foundations) and Art 109 (Digital Foundations). Art 102 (3D Foundations) introduces the student to three-dimensional art making. The student has broad exposure to diverse arts through two 200-level core art history survey classes. A traditional printmaking or photography course and a ceramics or sculpture course provide media choices within print and 3-dimensional disciplines. An elective course is provided for advanced studio art study.

Studio Art minors are frequent participants in department-sponsored field trips to world-class museums, cultural centers, and special events. Some have also served as Undergraduate Research Fellows, working on projects with studio faculty, and a number have pursued their studies abroad, particularly with the Kentucky Institute for International Studies consortium. For some students, the minor affords an opportunity to explore the discipline before deciding on further graduate studies. For others, it is a very personal pursuit born of their interest in art.
