English Education

English education majors are prepared for teaching careers in grades 8-12. You will participate in hands-on methods classes that provide real classroom experience in addition to in-depth preparation in literature, linguistics and writing.

In addition to a career in grades 8-12 teaching, the program is a gateway for any number of career options such as creative arts, law, public relations, and publishing.

The English Education Center (EEC) is a media resource center and technology laboratory for teacher preparation and professional development available for all english education majors. Undergraduate candidates in secondary English use the center for research, methods class assignments, and lesson preparation for field experience teaching. Student teachers meet at the EEC for on-campus seminars during their clinical semester and take advantage of the many resources for teaching preparation and portfolio development. The center also hosts professional development workshops and collaborative activities for area English teachers.
