Dr. Royal Berglee and Brad Fyffe are new members on the Morehead State University Board of Regents.
Dr. Berglee, professor of geography and international studies, was elected by the faculty to serve as the 12th faculty regent on the Morehead State University Board of Regents. For the past year, Dr. Berglee also has been the coordinator for study abroad programs.
He began his three-year term on July 1, succeeding Dr. Ronald Morrison. His term ends in 2017.
“I am deeply honored that the faculty elected me as their representative on the Board of Regents,” said Dr. Berglee. “I will do my very best to represent faculty priorities and concerns to the Board and to the MSU administration.”
A native of Brockton, Montana, he attended the University of North Dakota (UND) in Grand Forks. He graduated with honors with a B.A. degree in social science/philosophy and a M.S. degree in industrial technology. He was employed as an instructor and program director at Little Hoop Community College (now called Cankdeska Cikana Community College) at Fort Totten, North Dakota, on the Spirit Lake Reservation (at the time called the Devils Lake Sioux Reservation). His work included being a certified instructor for U.S. military contracts with the Tribal industries. He was later the first casino training coordinator for the Spirit Lake Tribe when it opened their initial casino in 1996.
Dr. Berglee went on to attend graduate school at Indiana State University, where he earned his Ph.D. degree in economic geography. He joined the geography faculty at Central Michigan University as an instructor for two years before accepting a position at MSU in the geography program.
He is currently on the board of the Cooperative Center for Study Abroad, currently based at Western Kentucky University. Dr. Berglee has published scholarly work on heritage tourism and has authored a textbook on World Regional Geography. On campus, he has held a wide range of faculty leadership positions, including serving as chair of the University’s Tenure Committee. He is a former chair of the Faculty Senate and has served as a Faculty Senate representative from three different departments.
Brad Fyffe, Greenup senior, has been elected president of Morehead State University’s Student Government Association. He will serve as the student representative on MSU’s Board of Regents for the 2014-15 academic year.
A senior government and philosophy major, Fyffe served as vice president for administration in 2013-14. He also is vice president for Delta Tau Delta fraternity and is secretary for Societas Pro Legibus. An Undergraduate Research Fellow for the School of Public Affairs, Fyffe is a member of the Kentucky Young Democrats.
MSU’s 11-member governing board is comprised of eight citizens appointed by the governor and elected representatives of the faculty, staff and students.
New members will be officially sworn in at the Aug. 21 Board meeting.
