Dr. Reeder wins award for outstanding contributions in water quality

Morehead State University’s Dr. Brian C. Reeder, professor of biology, was this year’s recipient of the Robert Lauderdale Award for Outstanding Contributions in Water Quality.

The award is presented by the University of Kentucky Water Resource Research Institute and is named for Dr. Robert Lauderdale, who was the first director of the KWRRI and served from 1964-73. He passed away in 1999.

Dr. Reeder has the distinction of having earned all three of MSU’s outstanding faculty awards: teaching, research, and service. He received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in environmental biology from The Ohio State University; M.A. degree in Biology from Marshall University; and B.S. degree in biology from Youngstown State University.

Dr. Reeder is the founder of the Morehead State’s Center for Environmental Education and a co-founder of the Institute for Regional Analysis and Public Policy (IRAPP).

He primarily teaches environmental courses in the Department of Biology, including wetland ecology and management, limnology, ecology, ornithology, and environmental education.

Dr. Reeder has been awarded more than four million dollars in research grants by various agencies, including the National Science Foundation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, USEPA, U.S. Forest Service, and U.S. Department of Education.  He has published more than 30 scholarly articles and book chapters, more 50 abstracts, and given more than 60 scholarly presentations.

KWRRI focuses on water resources and water-related environmental issues important to the state of Kentucky. In keeping with its statewide mission, the KWRRI works to foster research collaborations between faculty and research staff at UK as well as faculty and research staff affiliated with the various regional universities across the state. The KWRRI mission encompasses several facets including research, education, training, and technology transfer.
