Alexander named 'Distinguished Alumni Award' winner

Kenneth G. Alexander of Tucson, Arizona, was honored as the recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award during Morehead State University’s College of Business and Public Affairs Honors Banquet.

“I was thrilled when the faculty selected Ken as this year’s recipient,” said Dr. Bob Albert, dean. “His very impressive career success makes him a most worthy recipient of this recognition. He is truly an outstanding role model for our students.”

After completing an enlistment in the United States Marine Corps, Alexander attended MSU, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a Master of Business Administration degree in 1984. He worked in Banking and Finance before accepting a position at Hughes Aircraft Company in 1987.

Alexander is approaching his 26th year in the Defense Industry, which consists of work in Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems and in the Missile Systems Division of both Raytheon Company and Hughes Aircraft Company. Twenty of those years have been dedicated to developing global business in the Americas, Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa and Europe.

In his current role, as director of Javelin International Business Development, he is a member of the Javelin Joint Venture leadership team responsible for global growth.

Prior to his current role, Alexander was director of the Land Combat Growth and the Interim Land Combat International Business Development and Strategy.  In this role, he led the development and execution of the international growth strategy for Land Combat programs.

He has spent a considerable amount of time working in Middle East and North African countries. As the director of United Arab Emirates Program Development, Alexander was responsible for leading the creation, pursuit and collaboration of joint development program opportunities for Raytheon Missile Systems and its partner, Emirates Advanced Investments. Alexander also worked abroad for Raytheon as the director of Raytheon South East Asia Systems-Egypt.  He lived in Cairo and was responsible for all in-country operations for Hawk and Sparrow depot programs.

Part of Alexander’s Raytheon tenure was spent leading International Growth and Operations for Close-In Defense Solutions. In this six year role, he led a team of regional managers responsible for global growth and customer satisfaction.

From 1993 until 2001, he was the business development lead for Surface Navy Air Defense Systems, responsible for developing business in South America, Egypt and South Korea.
