MSU alumnus Kennedy Womack selected for internship at The Hague

Kennedy Womack, a 2017 graduate of Morehead State University who majored in government and philosophy has been selected for a highly competitive internship at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

The Ashland native will spend this summer at The Hague in the Netherlands, at the tribunal’s headquarters. The Special Tribunal for Lebanon was created in 2005 by the United Nations Security Council to try those responsible for the 2005 terrorist attack in Beirut that involved the assassination of Rafik Hariri, Lebanon’s former Prime Minister and that left 21 others dead and 226 injured.

A first-year student at the University of Cincinnati College of Law, Womack has excelled since graduating from MSU. She has been named to the editorial staff of Human Rights Quarterly, a leading human rights journal published by Johns Hopkins University Press. She also serves on the executive committee of the Student Bar Association and was recently named “Student Philanthropist of the Year” by the UC law school.

"She set the standard for achievement in my constitutional law and comparative politics courses,” said Dr. William Green, professor of government and Womack’s undergraduate research mentor.

Dr. Jonathan Pidluzny, associate professor of government and government program coordinator, added that Womack’s success “proves there is no limit to what MSU graduates can achieve, and the University is preparing students to make a real difference in the world.”

While at MSU, Kennedy served in leadership roles in the Student Government Association, College Democrats, Societas Pro Legibus, Spanish Club and Pi Sigma Alpha.

In 2016, she won MSU’s “Outstanding Student Leader” award.  She recently returned to campus to visit friends and government program faculty. She said that the government program was excellent preparation for law school and that her Canadian Parliamentary Internship was a uniquely beneficial experience.
