Kentucky artists invited to participate in Bluegrass Biennial

Kentucky artists are invited to participate in the Bluegrass Biennial 2018, a juried exhibition of contemporary artworks of Kentuckians, which will be displayed from June 4 through Aug. 29 in the main gallery of Morehead State University’s Claypool-Young Art Building.

A closing reception and juror’s talk will be held Wednesday, Aug. 29, from 5-7 p.m.

The Bluegrass Biennial exhibition is open to all artists 18 years of age or older who are residing in Kentucky. Awards will be presented for Best in Show ($500) and Merit ($100 each).

Exhibition juror is Daniel Pfalzgraf, currently the Curator for the Carnegie Center for Art and History in New Albany, Indiana.

Pfalzgraf was also previously director of The Green Building Gallery, director of media services at B. Deemer Gallery, and an assistant preparator at the Speed Art Museum, all in Louisville. He also served as media coordinator at the Lowe Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia.

He also has independently curated exhibitions under the name LoCAL.gallery. Swanson Contemporary represents his art. Pfalzgraf received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Murray State University in sculpture and drawing, and is currently finishing a Master of Business Administration degree at Indiana University Southeast.

The Claypool-Young art gallery, an educational resource of the art and design department and the University, features contemporary art for the Morehead State University community and its service region. The gallery, open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment, is free and open to the public. Parking is available on Main Street and across campus after 5 p.m.

The deadline to submit through CallForEntry.org is Friday, March 16, at 11:59 p.m.

Additional information is available by calling Jennifer Reis, gallery director, at 606-783-5446 or email j.reis@moreheadstate.edu.
