Fall Commencement set for Dec. 8

Lin-205-300.jpgMorehead State University will hold its 2018 Fall Commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Academic-Athletic Center. The commencement program will start at 10:30 a.m.

Lin-Hsiu Huang of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, is this year’s student speaker. She is the daughter of mother Hui-Yen Huang (10) and father Wen-Hung Huang (02) and is a candidate for both a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art with an emphasis in design, and a minor in mathematics.

Huang is a member of MSU’s Academic Honors Program. She has served as a tutor in the Tutoring and Learning Center for three years and has been an Undergraduate Research Fellow for two years. Huang is an active member and former public relations chair for Phi Sigma Pi, a gender-inclusive honors fraternity. She holds membership and has served in key leadership positions in the Academic Honors Student Association, the Student Association of Gender Equality and Kentucky Young Democrats. Over the past few years, she has worked for several nonprofit organizations, including Give Her Life in Pasadena, California; the National Human Rights Museum in Taipei City, Taiwan; and as a student advisor for Upward Bound, TRIO at MSU.

As an artist, she has participated in several art exhibitions and competitions throughout the state. She also founded the freelance company LINear Design, where she sells personalized paintings, ink prints and holiday cards. In Spring 2018, she interned as a student blogger for The Washington Center and as The Future of Privacy Forum’s first in-house designer, both in Washington, D.C. She currently works as a contract designer for the Association of Career and Technical Education (ACTE) in Alexandria, Virginia.

After graduation, Huang hopes to use her unique cultural and educational background to bridge the gap between identities – East and West, humanities and STEM – to create an impact in the corners of her world.
For the commencement ceremony, the grand marshal and mace bearer will be Dr. Greg J. Detweiler.
Faculty marshals will be Dr. Julia Ann Hypes, associate professor of sports management, and Dr. Kimberlee Sharp, associate professor of education.

Student marshals will be:

No large bags or backpacks will be permitted in the AAC during the ceremonies and commuter buses will run from the U.S. 60 lot to the AAC.
