The CRE strives to foster a community of volunteers on MSU's campus that impacts our entire service region and beyond. Our volunteer events and service-learning projects grant students the opportunity to develop a sense of belonging and to gain friendships and professional contacts while developing the skills needed to become civic leaders both on campus and in the community.

Service Hour Events & Tracking

Students are able to earn service hours from many CRE sponsored and co-sponsored events. Our Hourly Service Log helps you and MSU track these volunteer hours for use on your resume. This information is then filed electronically, and can be accessed through Folio180. Specific event information and registration is available on the MSUCares Volunteer Hub.

MLK Jr. EKU v. MSU Challenge 4 Change (January/February)

“Make it a day on, not a day off!”

During the 1950s and ’60s, civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. recognized the power of service to strengthen communities and achieve common goals. Initiated by Congress in 1994, King Day of Service builds on that that legacy by transforming the federal holiday honoring Dr. King into a national day of community service grounded in his teachings of nonviolence and social justice. The aim is to make the holiday a day ON, where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to improve lives, bridge social barriers, and move our nation closer to the “Beloved Community” that Dr. King envisioned.

Build-a-Bed (March/April)
Build-A-Bed helps children in Kentucky that are living in homes with not enough beds, or none at all. The mission is to ensure that K-12 Kentucky children are guaranteed a proper place to sleep in their home. Each recipient is given a set of sheets, a hygiene kit, books, night-light, teddy bear and a blanket or quilt along with a twin sized bed and mattress. MSUCorps has partnered with outreach groups at Morehead State University which include Retired and Senior Volunteer Programs (RSVP), Adult Education and College Access, Center for Regional Engagement, Youth Build, Today's Youth, and Campus Compact VISTA members as well as Gateway House and Frontier Housing to bring the Kentucky Build-A-Bed project closer to home. This regional effort will allow people in our area to see more closely what a profound difference their efforts and donations make.
