Jo Neace Krause

Jo Neace Krause was born and raised in Breathitt County, Kentucky in 1935. She currently lives in Nunnelly, Tennessee. She began painting at age nine and thought, "why not become famous".

In response to a packet of photographs left for the museum's director, KFAC acquired several of Jo's early works. The center has since acquired several more. Jo works primarily with oils on canvas and her subjects are often quirky or strange.

Jo is also a talented writer, having published short stories and poems in various literary journals such as The Yale Review and Exquisite Corpse, her collection of short stories, "The Last Game we Played", won The Hudson Prize from Black Lawrence Press and was published in 2008.
