Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to make an appointment?

An appointment is not required, but it is encouraged to decrease your wait time. Walk-ins are available all day, but note that those with appointments and emergency needs will be given priority.

How do I fill my prescription?

The clinic will either provide you with a hard copy of your prescription or we will send your prescription electronically to the pharmacy of your choice. If you choose to receive a hard copy, you are responsible for delivering it to the pharmacy. Students are responsible for payment for their prescription.

What services are available at the health clinic?

The clinic offers services comparable to those at any primary-care clinic you would find at home. Our services include, but are not limited to, preventative care, allergy treatments, immunizations, treatment of illness, physical examinations, mental health services, and dental care including hygiene and laser whitening.

Will I receive a class excuse if I receive treatment at the health clinic?

The granting of an excused absence or make-up work will be solely at the discretion of the professor. View MSU's class policy.

What should I bring when I visit MSU Counseling and Health Services?

  • Your MSU student ID
  • A copy of your insurance card (if applicable) and the cardholder's date of birth and last four digits of social security number
  • A completed student health form (click here to download) or any necessary information to complete the form in office

What if I do not have insurance, are there other options for me?

Yes; you will never be denied service. You will be charged a sliding scale based on your income and ability to pay. Please call the clinic or stop by for further information.

What privacy can I expect at MSU Counseling and Health Services?

Information about your health status or any office visits will not be made available to anyone without your consent. When you come to the clinic, we will provide you with the HIPAA Privacy Policy, a notice that we will not release any of your medical information.

Where do I go if the clinic is closed?

If you have an emergency, please dial 911 or visit the St. Claire Regional Medical Center emergency department.

FAQ for Parents

My student is on regular prescription medication. What is the best way to handle this while he/she is away at school? Will the clinic write refills?

The clinic will write refills for maintenance medications provided we have your child's health history information on file.

Does the clinic write for prescription medications for ADD/ADHD?

An appointment may be scheduled with a counselor and our psych/mental health provider.  After review of medical records, an evaluation will be made on a case by case basis.
