This program is a 21-semester hour program. Each of the following courses must be included in either the master's or postmaster's work. Additional courses may be necessary where prerequisites to these courses have not been completed.
The MSU doctorate in education (EdD) is designed to meet the distinctive needs of P–12 practitioner-leaders by addressing the call put forth by the Southern Regional Education Board and others to ensure that there is a “quality leader in every school." Our doctoral program offers two tracks for specialization: one in Educational Technology Leadership and another in P-12 Administrative Leadership.
This program prepare its graduate to provide state of the art, research based instruction to children in primary through the fifth grade.
Teachers completing this M.A. program will receive training in the areas of instructional technology and design based on best practices in instructional computer technology. This program will support the efforts of teachers who are interested in integrating technology into their instruction and are interested in providing instructional technology and instructional design leadership.
This program is designed to prepare teachers to become instructional leaders in the area of technology integration in P-16 curriculum and instructional design.
This is a certification only program which allows individuals with prior teacher education certification to become certified to teach at the P-5 level.
Rank 1 programs aim to refine teachers’ instructional skills and arm them with the latest trends in education models, behavior patterns, technology, and leadership techniques.
English majors who pursue the Bachelor of Arts in English degree take course work in literature, linguistics, and writing. The English major will graduate with both a comprehensive exposure to and intensive understanding of British and American literatures. English majors will become skilled writers who use language as effectively and precisely as possible and critical readers of literature.
Students enrolled in the English Education program leading to teacher certification in grades 8-12 receive broad and in-depth preparation in literature, linguistics, and writing and participate in hands-on methods classes that provide real classroom experience for pre-service teachers.
The Masters of Arts in English at Morehead State University offers students a comprehensive overview of advanced literary study as well as courses in creative and technical writing and linguistics. This program is also available completely online.
The Film Studies minor is an interdisciplinary program of study designed to give students a theoretical as well as practical knowledge of film.
The French program is ideal for students interested in the contemporary world. French is spoken on five continents, and as a second language everywhere. We provide rigorous training in the language and culture, supplemented by several exciting overseas study opportunities.
A minor in geography is an excellent complement to many majors at Morehead State University because of integrative nature.
Degree programs in history provide both breadth in area coverage and depth in practicing history research, preparing students to enter the teaching profession, applied fields such as heritage work, or graduate programs in history and related fields. There is a major and minor in history. The minor is offered on the main campus, MSU at Prestonsburg, and the University Center of the Mountains in Hazard.
The Honors Program is a highly selective program, open to outstanding students in all majors. The coursework falls into two categories: a required core of classes that fulfill some general education requirements, and independent projects designed to enhance the student’s capacity for self-directed learning. Students are required to participate in the Undergraduate Research Fellows Program, to provide 80 hours of service over four years, and to complete an approved overseas experience. Those admitted to the program receive the Honors Scholarship, awarded to no more than forty students per year; the scholarship covers tuition, room, board, books, and a laptop computer, and includes up to $1500 to be used towards the cost of the overseas experience.
The Specialist in Education degree program offers students who have demonstrated superior scholastic ability and special interest and aptitude in certain areas the opportunity to gain a high level of competency in a chosen specialized field for service as instructors, supervisors, or administrators.
This program leads to certification for Teachers working with young children from birth through kindergarten.
The major and minor in International Studies provide students with the opportunity to learn about the global world in which we live. Students in the major complete a core of classes and a language requirement, choose a track through which they can focus on an area of interest, and study abroad. The Masters of Arts Program in Communication provides advanced study of communication for professionals currently in the workforce, and for recent graduates of appropriate bachelor’s degree programs. Through a balance of core and specialty courses, students broaden their knowledge of the communication field while learning the theory and practice necessary to raise their communication competence to higher levels.
