 Academic Terms to know

Associate Degree -
Requires no fewer than 64 semester hours and can be completed in two years of less, except for the AAS in Radiologic Technology and the AAS in Veterinology Technology which require a minimum of three years to complete.
 
Bachelor's or Baccalaureate Degree -
Requires no fewer than 128 semester hours of credit and can be completed in four years or less.
 
Area (or Area of Concentration) -
A field of specialization requiring not less than 48 semester hours of credit, which can be completed in place of a major-minor combination.
 
Major -
A principal field of specialized study in which a student plans to obtain a degree.  A major requires no fewer than 30 semester hours of designated course work and must be accompanied by a minor or second major.
 
Minor -
A secondary field of study of no fewer than 21 semester hours of designated course work.
 
Program of Study -
The major-minor combination or Area of Concentration which the student elects to pursue.
 
Teacher Certification Program -
A state approved course of study that leads to certification as a public school teacher.
