Overview

Chemistry majors may be receive their certification to teach high school chemistry in two ways.  They can do an undergraduate certification, which requires a chemistry major, a minor in some other area and thirty-two credit hours of education courses.  This route generally requires some summer coursework and/or extra semesters.  The second route is to enter the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program after finishing a regular B.S. Degree in chemistry.  The MAT degree can generally be completed in two years while the candidate is teaching and drawing a salary as most courses are in the evening, on weekends, or online.
