Bio

Toni Hobbs is an illustrator and graphic designer and has exhibited nationally and internationally. She is the Director of Creative & Branding Services at Morehead State University (MSU). She is currently an adjunct instructor at MSU and teaches community art classes at the Rowan County Arts Center.

"Honest art is good art." That has been her creed and is the key to successfully creating her art. Hobbs incorporates music, repetitive spirals and fast/fluid black ink lines, paint spatters and reticulation of thinned watercolor, gouache and ink.

Wood, canvas and cardboard are often used as canvases as they are both common and multipurpose. She enjoys the stability of the material and the fact that spray paint works well, and it forces water-based ink and paint to be used carefully and deliberately. Her digital art reflects this style through a mixture of vector illustrations, layers and textures.

She is a former member of the MSU President's Diversity Council and a current member of the University and College Designers Association and the National Consortium of Directors of LGBT Resources in Higher Education and was recognized in 2008 as a member of the MSU President's Leadership Academy. Hobbs was featured in the 2009-10 issue of Justice Magazine as a "Face of Justice" in the Commonwealth for her LGBTQIA activism. In 2011, she was named an "Ambassador of Goodwill" by the Kentucky Equality Federation.

Hobbs was instrumental in developing the initial concept for a mentoring program for underrepresented students, DREAMS, and is a founding member and former advisor of ALLYance at MSU. She also established the Hobbs Endowment for Equality.

Her past contributions include serving on the Kentucky Fairness Alliance Board of Directors, the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen and Morehead Tomorrow. She is currently an adjunct instructor at MSU and chair of the Rowan County Arts Center board of directors. For more information, visit her website at art.missprime.com . She is a native of Eastern Kentucky.
