Research Interests:

Her research interests are primarily in psycholinguistics, focusing on how people understand sentences and how prosody and intonation affect comprehension.

Dr. Carlson publishes in linguistics and psycholinguistics journals such as Syntax, Language and Speech, and Memory & Cognition. She regularly presents at the primary conference in her field, the Annual CUNY Conference on Human Sentence Processing.

Bio

Katy Carlson has a B.A. in linguistics from Yale University and a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and taught at Northwestern University before arriving in Morehead.

In 2010, Dr. Carlson won MSU’s Distinguished Researcher Award. She teaches graduate courses in advanced syntax and psycholinguistics as well as undergraduate courses in syntax and introductory linguistics.
