Traditional Music

Program Info

The BA in Music (Traditional Music) provides for the study of traditional music as related to the creative cultural interaction in Appalachia that has produced a wealth of distinctive styles of music. As it relates to The Kentucky Center for Traditional Music at Morehead State University, "traditional" music includes Bluegrass, Old Time, Country, Ballad Singing, Blues, Celtic, Western Swing and many other related forms. The music with which we are most involved stems from, or is influenced by the music that is identified with our southern Appalachian mountain region.

A minor area of study is required for this degree.

Music Education Major, Pickerington, OH "I like MSU because the small campus atmosphere suits me wonderfully. Coming from a big city to MSU makes me feel relaxed and secluded. The music faculty are the best, and they always strive to do whatever they can to help you grow as a musician."
