The western team captain is Brittany Crabtree, a senior from KY. The team has had continued success being in the top two teams in Zone 6 Region 3 the last four years. We are proud to be the 2011-2012 Zone 6 Region 3 Champions, along with having individual riders competing at regional horse show, semi finals and nationals. The team usually has around 13 – 15 members that ride in team practices in addition to their university riding class. The main focus of both MSU program and IHSA is horsemanship and reining.
The MSU equine family does have a great group of horses for the team to practice on. There are some representation of quarter horses, TB, paints, warm bloods, hunter ponies, and appaloosas to ride during the team practices. They range from young projects to retired show horses with a nice show record and wonderful beginner horses worth their weight in gold. MSU promises to have a furry friend for all levels of riding.
Since IHSA allows a division for all levels of riding, no matter if you have never ridden before or have shown on the A circuit/AQHA shows, MSU equestrian Teams would be happy to have you join the fun. All of the team members are also part of the MSU’s Equestrian Club, which is open to anyone interested in the program regardless of experience or desire to show. Overall, all three teams and club members work as a single entity and make for a great environment to learn and enjoy the equestrian field.
