FACULTY SPOTLIGHT

Pamela Workman - thumbnail
Costume Shop Supervisor, Theatre Faculty "Morehead State University holds a certain place in my heart. This is where I learned that costumes is not just a hobby, this is a career.  This is where I learned to stretch my mind and imagination as an actress, technician, and designer.  The theatre program gave all students the chance to thrive and succeed. Now, returning to MSU as a member of faculty,  I still find that the MSU theatre program is an aspiring environment for students to develop into their future selves.  The facilities and  faculty members here are fantastic and determined to help all that desire to succeed do so."

Arts Administration - Minor in Arts Administration

Program Info
The Arts Administration minor, a 24 credit hour program at Morehead State University, provides management skills in the arts and non-profit sector in preparation for future career opportunities.

Arts Administration is a viable and expanding career option for fine and performing artists who seek alternative professional arts opportunities in addition to performance and exhibition.  Students with majors in the humanities, education, and business would also benefit from the program. The minor trains students to manage organizations and programming focused on enriching lives culturally, educationally, and socially for the greater civic good.  Arts organizations serve and develop communities through shared experiences, life-long learning, and open and expansive dialogue on unfamiliar issues and cultures.

In addition to focusing on management, finance, public relations, marketing and legal coursework, the minor through its “Intro to Arts Administration” course develops foundational knowledge and skills relating to arts and social sector non-profit organizations.  These skills include community organizing and advocacy; grant writing and fundraising; volunteer development and board relations; educational, cultural programming and access; strategic planning and governance structures; and organizational and program assessment.

Professional practice is embedded into the minor, including field experiences through two practicums tailored to students’ interests, service learning, and instructional interaction with arts administrators are integral elements to the program.

Theatre Major, Covington, KY"Morehead State University is a place where you can feel free to embrace who you are and enhance the talents you have been given. MSU is a place that is safe, yet will challenge you and make you the best you can be. I feel that, just in my short time here, I have grown immensely and can't wait to see how much I continue to grow in my remaining years in my home away from home."
