Space Movie Project
Digital movie-making for innovative, real world learning
The MSU College of Education, collaborating with the faculty of the College of Science, Space Science Center, and the Kentucky Dataseam Initiative facilitates a one-day workshop, online learning community and on-going in-school support for up to 10 teachers and 40 students from 10 counties in Eastern Kentucky. Utilizing cutting edge technology in both desktop movie-making and space research tools, teachers and students are given the opportunity to work with science education professors, space science engineers, and educational technology specialists. Students learn to research and record digital documentaries about space. Once complete, these space movies are presented on the “larger than life” ceiling of the Digital Star Theatre, a 100-seat, multi-function, state-of-the-art, digital classroom. All of the space movies are then compiled and published as podcasts.
