Join a Fraternity

The process for joining a fraternity during the first weeks of school is called "formal recruitment" and is managed by the Interfraternity Council (IFC). It is a mutual selection process where you determine which group of men you fit in best with and the Fraternities determine which men fit in best with them. A Fraternity will indicate their interest in your membership by extending a “bid”. If interested, you accept the bid.

You will be required to complete a “blue card” which gives the Greek Life Office permission to check your grades to determine if you meet the minimum academic requirements to join. If so, your name will be added to a list of eligible men. Formal recruitment is free.

Though it is not required, it is a good idea to attend at least one function of each fraternity, so that you can be sure to pick the right one.

At the end of formal recruitment each fraternity hands out invitations to join during Bid Day. No fraternity can invite a man to be a member prior to this day. Once you have chosen which fraternity you want to join, you must go to the Greek Life Office (204 ADUC) and complete a Personal Data Card (be sure to sign the back). IFC's fee for joining is $5.00 and you pay it when you fill out this card.

After formal recruitment, a fraternity may continue to recruit members through "continuous open bidding" (COB).

Depending on the year, recruitment can also occur in the spring. For further information, contact the Greek Life Office at 606-783-2071.
