Academic Requirements for Greek Membership

MSU has established basic academic requirements for students to join Greek organizations. Students must give the Greek Life Office permission to verify the following academic requirements. There will be either a form or a card which will grant the Greek Life Office this permission and the office will inform chapters that "yes" the person meets minimums or "no" they do not. Individual chapters may have higher standards, but the following are MSU’s minimums:

First-semester students with no established MSU GPA (particularly freshmen)

In order to join/associate or to be initiated into a fraternity or sorority at MSU, a first semester student must have been unconditionally admitted to the University and have an academic index of 475 or higher. An academic index is (high school GPA X 100) + (ACT score X 10).

Example:

3.60 High School GPA  x100 =  360
20 ACT Score  x  10 =   200
Academic Index           =  560

(A student with a GED is considered to have a 2.50 for the purposes of academic index tabulation)

Students with an established college GPA

Students must have a minimum college cumulative GPA of 2.50 in order to join/associate or be initiated (excluding hours completed while a high school student).
