Dr. Nicola F. Mason
“Many of the faculty in the MSU music department maintain an active international performing and teaching career that lures young musicians from around the world. As an international student from South Africa, studying at MSU provided me with the individualized instruction I needed and opened the doors to a community of music educators that continue to support and nurture my career in music today.”
I completed my PhD in Music Education at the University of Kentucky in 2012 and am currently Assistant Professor of Music Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Eastern Kentucky University. I regularly present at regional, national, and international conferences and my research has been published in General Music Today, Bluegrass Music News, Orff Beat, and Orff Echo. I am Vice President of the Kentucky Orff Schulwerk Association and manage the annual Summer Orff Schulwerk Teacher Education program at the University of Kentucky. My husband and I, Dr. Brian S. Mason (Associate Professor of Percussion, MSU) live in Morehead, KY.
