What can I recycle?

MSU Accepted Recyclables (for offices or students living in residence halls):

  • Aluminum and Steel Cans (marked bins throughout campus)
  • Batteries: alkaline & lithium batteries; a collection box is in ADUC by bookstore exit on the first floor.
  • Plastic Bottles #1 & #2 (marked bins throughout campus)
  • We collect #1 and #2, which includes milk jugs, soda bottles, detergent bottles, and water bottles. We just ask that you clean them out before dropping them in the recycle bins. Lid removal is optional.
  • Paper (marked bins throughout campus)
  • Newspaper, soft and hard back books, magazines, office and school paper, mixed paper, and shredded paper, and junk mail are accepted. Please put napkins, paper towels, Kleenex, etc. in the trash!
  • Cardboard (Wooden bins behind campus buildings)
  • Printer & Fax Toner Cartridges (ADUC Lobby, Residence hall information desks)
  • Used Cell Phones (ADUC Lobby, Residence hall information desks)
  • Pens and pen caps, Mechanical pencils, Markers and marker caps, Highlighters and highlighter caps, permanent markers and permanent marker caps (ADUC information desk, CC Library circulation desk, Claypool Young Art Building main office, Eagle Center information desk, Residence halls information desks)
  • E-Scrap: All University-owned equipment e-scrap should go to Support Services (606-7833-2323). Personal e-scrap may be dropped off at 103 Education Services Building. We accept computers, printers, monitors, keyboards and any other computer peripherals and accessories, laptops, fax machines, phones, cell phones, electronic games, VCRs, DVD players, and the videos, DVDs, floppy disks, tapes, etc., that are used in them, and microwaves. No TV’s will be accepted but can be dropped off at the Community Recycling Center for a $7.50 fee.
