Film Studies: Lilies of the Field, 50th Aniversary Screening

When: Monday, February 10, 2014 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Where: 002 Breckinridge Hall

Description:

In 1963, Sidney Poitier played Homer Smith in "Lillies of the Field," the role that would earn him the Academy Award for Best Acting.  He was the first Africa American to win the award.  We will be screening "Lillies of the Field" for its 50th Anniversary, also coinciding with African-American History Month. Afterwards there will be discussion of the racial barriers broken by this film, including a Q&A for the audience to participate in.  This event is free to attend.  This event is sponsored by the Departments of International and Interdisciplinary Studies, Communication, Media and Leadership Studies and English.
