Academy Application

Admission Requirements

Craft Academy applicants are high school sophomores who will have completed geometry, algebra I, and algebra II by the end of their sophomore year. Students are selected based on ACT or SAT scores; academic grades from ninth and tenth grades; interest in advanced careers in science, technology, engineering and math; student responses to application essay questions; interviews by Academy staff members; and recommendations from teachers and other individuals who can attest to a student’s need and preparedness for the program.

Craft Academy applicants for Fall 2016 must:

  • Be a current resident of the state of Kentucky;
  • Be a high school sophomore;
  • Complete geometry, algebra I and algebra II prior to enrollment;
  • Score a minimum 18 English, 22 reading, and 22 math on the ACT; and
  • Submit a completed application and all required materials no later than Feb. 1, 2016. To complete this application on your computer, download and open in Adobe Reader.
    •  Required materials include an official high school transcript, ACT or SAT test scores, and three letters of recommendation, one of which must be written by school personnel and at least one written by a community member.

To begin the application process please visit:

  • Choose Apply Online
  • Step 1 - Create Your Account - Here you will create an account for your Craft Academy application, fill out your personal information, and select a password.
    • The proper answer to the question:  Which statement best describes you, is Craft Academy high school for Excellence in Science and Mathematics.
    • The anticipated entry term will be FALL 2016.
  • Step 2 - Start Your Application - During step two you will enter more personal and academic information.
    • Applying as which type of student should be answered with:  High School Student Program.      
    • Applying to:  Fall Term 2016.
  • Step 3 - Complete Your Application - In this section you will certify your answers, submit your application, and review the five essay questions.
  • Once you submit your application, you will be directed to a thank you page which lists all supplemental items that need to be uploaded.  
  • Step 4 - Supplemental Items - To upload your supplemental items (5 essay questions, 3 letters of recommendation, official transcripts, and ACT test scores)  choose My Account in the upper right corner. 

Once you have submitted the application, and all supplemental items you will receive a confirmation email.  You may at any time save your application and finish it at a later time.  Please remember your login information and password.  If you are unable to access your account please contact our office.

Letters of Recommendation Suggestions 


Letters of Recommendation can be uploaded in the supplemental item portion of your application process.  Letters may also be sent directly to Craft Academy by:

Students applying to the Craft Academy will be selected on their high academic achievements as supported by GPA and ACT scores. Letters of recommendation provide additional information with regard to other skills and dispositions that would make this applicant a viable applicant for acceptance into this prestigious academy.

Overall categories the selection committee take into consideration include but are not limited to:

  • Academic achievement, awards, and honors
  • Student desire and expressed interest in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math careers
  • Character (ethical and moral)
  • Service to the community
  • Perseverance
  • Demonstrated maturity and ability to transition from high school to independent living at a younger age
  • Additional talents that would likely add diversity to the Academy

Application and Selection Dates for Class of 2018

  • Application process begins Aug. 1, 2015.
  • Application deadline is Feb. 1, 2016.
  • Submit your completed application online with your supplemental items.
  • Students selected for interviews will be notified by Feb. 8, and interviews will be held Feb. 20, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Selections will be made by March 1, 2016.
  • 60 high school sophomores will be selected to begin the Fall 2016 semester at Craft Academy as high school juniors.

Cost of Attendance

The cost of tuition, room and a meal plan are covered by the Academy. Students will be responsible for purchasing textbooks, additional meals and any other personal or miscellaneous expenses. There is no fee to apply.
