As student in this program, you will use a variety of scientific research methods to study how social categories, institutions and social conditions influence the thoughts, behaviors and actions of the groups of individuals who make up our society. You will learn to think critically about human social life and how to ask important research questions. You will be able to collect and analyze data and communicate clearly and effectively. Coursework opportunities will include the following topics:

  • Human Experiences of Sex and Gender

Career Opportunities

A sociology degree from MSU will give you the experience, knowledge and marketability needed to follow any number of career paths in the corporate, government, non-profit and independent sectors. Combined with other skills and courses, a sociology degree will prepare you for careers in:

Hands-On Experience

Students may participate in undergraduate research fellowships as early as their freshman year. If you wish to participate, we encourage you to schedule a meeting with any of our faculty members and advisors; they will guide you in the right direction. 

Our program also offers opportunities for you to network with career professionals, interact with other groups on campus and gain leadership experience through involvement in organizations like the Student Association for Gender Equality or the Student Association of Human Trafficking.
