Doug Chatham was raised in Taylorsville, N.C. In 2000, he received a Ph. D. in Mathematics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a dissertation in commutative algebra. After a year as a visiting assistant professor at Wake Forest University, Chatham joined the faculty at Morehead State University. For the past several years, he has worked with undergraduate research fellows and colleagues in mathematics and computer science on variations of the n-queens problem. This work has produced several peer-reviewed articles, a KY NSF-EPSCoR grant and a mention in the Sept. 5, 2008 issue of
, "Science". He has advised several senior capstone projects and has coordinated the department's senior capstone course for many semesters. Chatham served as president of MSU's faculty senate in 2012-13, and he is currently one of the department's faculty senators. Chatham is also the host of Morehead State Public Radio's "Odd Numbers" music program.
