Program/Dept: Health and Physical Education Department of Health Wellness and Human Performance
Degrees, Licensures and Certifications: Mary earned a bachelor's of science degree in health, physical education, recreation and dance (teaching certification grades K-12) from Morehead State University, and also a science degree (teaching certification grades 5-12). She holds a master’s degree in health, physical education and recreation and has also completed a Rank I in secondary education. She later completed another Rank I in counseling from MSU. GO EAGLES! Her degrees encompass elementary, middle and secondary certifications from MSU. She is certified as an instructor trainer with the American Red Cross; Educational Professional Standards Board certified in KTIP program as a university supervisor and as a resource teacher in the internship program.
Her scholarly interests focus on H/PE pedagogy, standards-based health and physical education teaching and creating a socially responsive pedagogy in the H/PE.
BioMary Murphy Miller joined the faculty in the Department of Health, Wellness and Human Performance as Instructor in 2001. Prior to accepting her current position, she taught as an adjunct instructor and Education Coordinator for the NCAA NYSP Camp at MSU for 17 years. Mary has been teaching methods classes and supervising student teachers at MSU since 2001. Mary’s first teaching experience was in Glades County Public Schools in Moore Haven, Florida where she was very involved with teaching migrant children health and physical education and engaging them in intramurals as the athletic director. This was before beginning her teaching career in Kentucky public schools where she taught science, health and physical education and coached golf grades 9-12 for 27 years. During this time she served as drug and alcohol counselor/coordinator.
