Research Interests: Deirdra’s areas of interest are in: health disparities in rural areas, with a particular interest in chronic disease management; community development and organization and issues related to social justice. She has presented on the national, state, and local levels on topics including: health disparities in rural Appalachia; tobacco policy initiatives; community health coalition development; and cancer prevention and treatment.
Bio
For the past eleven years, Deirdra was a clinical faculty member in the University of Kentucky College of Social Work. During this time, she coordinated the Master of Social Work program located in the Southeast Kentucky region. She also worked as the Program Manager for the Appalachian Community Cancer Network. She is currently the project director for the Tri-County Diabetes Partnership and serves as the President Elect of the National Association of Social Work – Kentucky Chapter. Additionally, Deirdra serves on the Kentucky Fairness Alliance Board of Directors and on the Program Planning Committee of the National Association of Social Workers.
