Locating Materials for Contemporary Realistic Fiction

Contemporary Realistic Fiction refers to literature that is written at the present time.  It usually deals with the problems and joys of day-to-day living. These books have plots, characters, and settings that might be found in real life. The main characters are usually children, so they should think, behave and express themselves as children. Contemporary realistic fiction deals with feelings and issues that children can relate to, such as friendships, family life, school and growing up.  Many of the books in this genre deal with serious issues such as death, divorce, war, and other disruptions. These powerful books can help a child deal with problems and feelings he/she is experiencing in his/her own life.
