Cora Wilson Stewart Moonlight School

Description

An authentic one-room school, located on the east end of First Street, is open for special occasions or by appointment. For tours or events, contact the KY Folk Art Center at www.kyfolkart.org.

Accessibility: A ramp is located at the back entrance.

History

Acquired as a gift in 1972, this authentic one-room school was located adjacent to Breckinridge Hall for several years before being moved in 2001 to a spot near the Moonlight Stage on East First Street. It was named in honor of Cora Wilson Stewart, the founder of adult education in the U.S., a former school superintendent in Rowan County and an MSU alumnus.
