A Government or Public Policy major will prepare you for a career in law, government service, and teaching. To assist you in making a career choice, the American Political Science Association has published Careers and the Study of Political Science: A Guide for Undergraduates, which describes the career opportunities available to government and political science students and provides useful information on choosing a career.
Government and Public Policy majors have graduated from all three Kentucky law schools and out-state law schools, including Georgetown University, Indiana University, Ohio State University, Vanderbilt University, the University of Texas, and Tulane University. If the practice law interests you, visit the Law School Admission Council site where you will find information on the Law School Admission Test and links to American law schools.
Government and Public Policy majors have attended schools of public administration at Virginia Polystechnic and State University, the University of Lousiville, the University of Kentucky, and Morehead State University. If you are thinking about a career in state, local, and national government, visit the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration site where you will find information on graduate schools, internships, and careers.
Government and Public Policy majors have studied for graduate degrees in political science at the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky. If you are considering a career in college teaching, visit the “Graduate Connection” link at the American Poltiical Science Association site where you find information on graduate programs in political science.
Government and Public Policy majors can also pursue the MPA (Master of Public Administration) or the MA in Government at MSU. This degree is a preparation for community service or for further graduate study in Law or doctoral study.
