Psychology, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts and Area of Concentration

Program Requirements

The Department of Psychology offers a major in psychology where students can choose  a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Art or an area of concentration.

Students who complete at least 24 hours of science courses in addition to the required 36 hours of psychology courses will earn the Bachelor of Science degree, and those completing less than 24 hours of science courses will earn the Bachelor of Arts degree.

For those students who seek a deeper understanding of human behavior, you can earn a Bachelor of Science with an area of concentration in psychology. The area of concentration program requires the student to complete 51 credit hours in psychology, with the vast majority of courses at the 300 and 400 level.

Bachelor of Science (if the student completes at least 24 hours of science courses beyond the 36 hours of psychology courses)

Bachelor of Arts (if the student completes less than 24 hours of science courses beyond the 36 hours of psychology courses)

The Department of Psychology offers three degree options; a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts and Area of Concentration. 

The  Bachelor of Science in Psychology is a 120-hour degree program. Students must complete:  

  • 36 hours of psychology courses,  
  • 24 hours of coursework in a minor 
  • 30 hours of general education courses and  
  • 30 hours of elective courses.  

    Psychology Requirements (36 hours)

    Core (30 hours)
    Students must complete all of the following:  

  • PSY 154 - Introduction to Psychology  
  • PSY 156 - Lifespan Development Psychology  
  • PSY 281 - Experimental Design and Analysis I  
  • PSY 282 - Experimental Design and Analysis II  
  • PSY 354 - Introduction to Social Psychology  
  • PSY 380 - Cognitive Psychology  
  • PSY 390 - Psychology of Personality  
  • PSY 421 - Physiological Psychology  
  • PSY 489 - Psychology of Learning  
  • PSY 499C - Systems and Theories 

Students who take less than 24 hours of elective courses in science will earn the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree.
