Welcome to Morehead State University’s College of Education Web site. Whether you are looking to begin a career as a teacher or to earn an advanced degree, MSU’s College of Education can help you meet your personal and professional goals.

The College of Education is dedicated to the preparation of teachers and education leaders, who will know the foundations of the education profession, content for curricula, the characteristics of diverse learners, and the best practices to ensure that all students learn at high levels.

Morehead State University’s Professional Education Unit, accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), prepares over 80% of the teachers in its 22-county service region. Students select from early-childhood through administrative majors, bachelors through a doctorate degree. Graduates are child-care professionals, teachers, teacher leaders, principals, superintendents, guidance counselors, P12 Central Office staff, college and university professionals, student affairs personnel, educational technologists, and policy makers.

We strive to promote the flow of “Light to and From the Mountains” through engaging with communities of learners at all levels – P12 students, teacher candidates, and in-service educators, university faculty and staff, community members, and state agencies. Teacher candidates are engaged early in their programs in P12 schools, working side-by-side with educators in diverse school settings. As a regional university situated in rural Appalachia, we encourage our educator candidates to explore the regions they come from and to use that background knowledge to help them understand effective educational practices to ensure that every high school student graduates college and career ready.

I am delighted to be able to welcome you virtually to the College of Education. Whether online or face-to-face, we encourage you to visit us and to consider making MSU’s College of Education your place to be as you prepare to become a teacher, a school leader, a school counselor, or a professional educator in adult or higher education. Please feel free to stop by my office in 100 Ginger Hall and introduce yourself!

Sincerely,
Cathy Gunn
Dean and Professor
