Brian Hutchinson, director of athletics, is the new interim assistant vice president and dean of students.A 1996 graduate of Morehead State University, Hutchinson earned a bachelor of business administration, while specializing in real estate. During his senior year, the Louisa, Ky., native served as the Student Government Association President and was a student representative to the MSU Board of Regents. He graduated in 2001 with a master of arts in education (sports administration), also from MSU. He has remained active in the local alumni association of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
He welcomes this opportunity to be more involved with the student body, including working with student organizations and activities, as well as, ensuring the safety and well being of our students.As athletics director, Hutchinson has made the academic success of student-athletes a priority, working to form the EAGLE Center (Eagle Athletics Guided Learning Environment) - a space for studying, tutoring and academic preparation. During his tenure, MSU student-athletes have won several academic awards at the OVC and national levels, including seven OVC Institutional Academic Achievement Banners – the highest academic accolade for a conference school. Six programs have claimed individual sport team academic awards, and a significant group of student-athletes have been named either academic all-district or academic all-America. More than 100 student-athletes earned OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades this year.He has also lead the formation of an athletics facility master plan and has worked to improve facilities and game experience for student-athletes, as well as fans and alumni, through improvements to locker rooms, fields of play, as well as hospitality spaces. Construction will begin this fall on a new facility for our championship Eagle Volleyball team in the Academic-Athletic Center.Hutchinson is also key in the athletics' fundraising efforts, including the annual Eagle Excellence Fund, as well as two Daktronics’ video boards in Johnson Arena, along with video equipment and staffing. He plays an active role in helping with alumni and donor events, to help build better relationships with the community and MSU’s alumni and friends.He is the immediate past president of the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association, and is a member of the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee, NCAA Football Issues Committee, and the NCAA Football Midwest Regional Advisory Committee. He has also served on various other NCAA Committees, including the Division I Recruiting and Personnel Issues Cabinet, and as chair of the OVC Board of Directors of Athletics.Hutchinson and his wife, Elizabeth, also a two-time MSU alum, have two sons, Benjamin and Riley. They reside in Morehead.
