 PROCESS FOR ACCESSING ACCOMMODATIONS

While you may make a request for accommodations at any point, it is usually best to do so well prior to the start of each semester since some accommodations require additional lead time to arrange (e.g., sign language interpreters, note-takers, housing requests, materials in an alternate format, and others).  If you would prefer to attend a class or take an exam without accommodations first, please take into account that sufficient lead time will still be necessary from the time of your request.

If and when you want to pursue accommodations, you will need to register with the DS office. Ideally, we would meet in person, but if necessary an intake can be conducted over the phone (606/783-5188).

DIRECTIONS: Go to the second floor of the Adron Doran Student Center (ADUC) near the entrance to The Grill, and enter through the glass suite of offices that is shared with Student Activities. Just inside is a reception area (you do NOT need to check in there, but if DS staff is with another student when you come by, you are welcome to wait there). Take a right turn down the first hallway, and it will end at the DS office in room 204-E.

Note: there is an automatic door and elevator located at the far left doorway of the building's main entrance. A second elevator can be found inside the first floor lobby near the vending machines.

During the intake session, we will ask for some basic information such as your student I.D., contact number, and academic major.  Your documentation will be reviewed, and the current impacts of your disability will be clarified based on your input.  Together we will determine the adjustments that are both reasonable and relevant to your particular needs at the university.  Remember that you are an active participant in this process. You will receive a copy of our Policies and Procedures, get to ask any questions, and you’ll leave your intake with a clear plan for using your accommodations.

In subsequent semesters, you can renew your approved accommodations by simply calling, e-mailing, or stopping by to request them.  Although you may remain qualified for services, they are driven by your request and are not put in place again without your prior renewal
