Morehead State University is dedicated to preserving the natural environment and conserving resources for future generations. We encourage all students, faculty and staff to become much more engaged as a university community to create an environmentally sustainable campus. Promote a culture of social, economic and environmental responsibility by becoming an Earthwise Eagle. We can make a difference!
Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony. Sustainability fulfills the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations, ensuring that we continue to have the resources needed to protect human health and our environment.

Bee Campus USA: We have been certified as a Bee Campus USA! Our committee has developed a pollinator protection plan and will be educating the public about the importance of pollinators during the Tree Campus USA activities and in our new outdoor classroom that will begin to take shape April 1st. We are giving a workshop on the importance of pollinators at the March 22nd "Town & Country" at the Rowan County Senior High School and attendees will receive free milkweed seeds. On March 30th, Earthwise Eagles is partnering with the student led Environmental Eagles club to host a movie night and we will watch "Vanishing of the Bees." There will be free popcorn and drinks. The film will start at 6 PM in Rader Hall Room 111.
Tree Campus USA: We have been honored with the designation of Tree Campus USA for the second year in a row by the Arbor Day Foundation. On March 30th, we will hold a "chalk it up" celebration at the Bell Tower and give away trees to the public. The trees are made available from the Arbor Day Foundation and Kentucky Division of Forestry through the Kentucky Tree Recovery Campaign. There will be five different types of trees available including swamp white oak, northern red oak, smooth sumac, pecan and persimmon. We are seeking volunteers to help us plant trees on April 1st on campus at the new outdoor classroom behind Normal Hall and on county property at a restoration site along Triplett Creek. All those who volunteer will receive a free flash drive wristlet, water bottle, tote bag and t-shirt. For more information about the tree giveaway or volunteering, contact Holly Niehoff (606) 783-2584 or April Haight (606) 783-2455.
