Philosophy and Religious Studies

Philosophy involves the careful study of the most basic and fundamental questions of human life. For example, 'What is the meaning of life?' 'What is right and wrong?' Is there a God?' Do we have free will?' What do we know?'

In studying philosophy, we study what great thinkers through the ages have said about these basic questions. We also explore these questions in the light of what we think we know today. Although people still disagree about what the right answers are, people who study philosophy find that exploring possible answers, discussing arguments and objections, and considering different points of view lead to a deep kind of understanding.

The philosophy program as Morehead State University is committed to combining a thorough, rigorous education in the traditional areas of philosophy with a personal, interactive classroom experience.

Upper-division courses in philosophy are small in size (typically 20 students), which makes it possible for each student to contribute significantly to class discussion and to receive individual attention and detailed feedback from the professor.
