At Morehead State University, Foreign Languages open new worlds. Academic programs in Spanish and French attract students interested in language, literature and culture. Courses in other languages such as Chinese, Italian and German are offered on the basis of interest. The program is committed to innovative teaching, faculty development and working closely with students to serve their needs in the classroom and beyond.

The Foreign Language Program maintains a computer lab in Breckinridge 211 where students can practice their language skills and receive tutoring on demand.  The computer lab is staffed with Foreign Language student workers.  The lab has computers, televisions, video cassette recorders, multimedia cart, and several recording devices.  The lab is open five days a week.  For hours of operation consult the schedule posted on the door.

Students, faculty and other members of the community participate in a wide range of activities related to these and other languages including:

  • language tables for informal conversation
  • clubs and honor societies
  • an annual Foreign Language Festival, which draws over one thousand students to MSU for a day filled with competitions and activities
  • a regional professional organization, the Eastern Kentucky Language Collaborative, which brings together teachers from schools and universities in the region.
  • study abroad programs sponsored by the Kentucky
    Institute for International Studies.
  • foreign language residence hall, fall 2008
