Scholarships for Freshmen & Transfer Students (Richard A. Walls Fund)
The Geologists from Appalachia Scholarship is for incoming freshmen that graduate from high schools in any of Kentucky’s Appalachian counties. To qualify for this $1000 award you must meet the following criteria:
•High school GPA of 2.75 or better
•No pre-college curriculum deficiencies
•Overall ACT of 22
•Officially declare ESS Geology Option at registration

The Transfer to Earth System Science Scholarship is for transfer students from any of Kentucky’s community colleges. To qualify for this $1000 award you must meet the following criteria:
•GPA of 2.75 or higher for courses taken in community college
•No pre-college curriculum deficiencies
•Overall ACT of 22
•Officially declare ESS as your major during registration

Scholarships for Juniors & Seniors (Richard A. Walls, Edwin Paul Lyon, Jr., & Geoscience Funds)
The H.W. Straley III and Jules R. DuBar Scholarships are $1000 competitive awards for junior and senior ESS majors already enrolled at MSU. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:
•Full-time ESS major at MSU
•Active member of the Morehead Geological Society (geology club)
•3.00 GPA using only MSU credits
•Junior or senior standing

The John C. Philley Scholarship is a $1000 award for MSU ESS students who show marked improvement in their performance by their junior or senior year. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:
•Full-time ESS major at MSU
•Active member of the Morehead Geological Society (geology club)
•Just completed two consecutive semesters with a 3.00 GPA using only MSU credits
•Junior or senior standing

Field Camp Support Scholarships are both need and merit based and are for students who attend summer geology field camps at approved universities. Award criteria vary, so see an Earth System Science faculty member for details and applications.
